So in the latest news broadcasts there has been schools in the South starting to have school 4 days a week 10 hours a day. My hopes is that policy NEVER comes up here.
The reason it was started in the first place was to save money, particularly on gas. They would be saving tons of money by only running the buses 4 days a week instead of the usual 5. They also think we would get more educational value if we had 10 hours + of school. Which for some sums it up, they're all for it. I on the other hand am totally against it.
Let me create a visual spectral for you. You must awake at 4 A.M to catch the 5 A.M bus to school in order to get there at the specified 6 A.M. With ten hours of school and with most students averaging out to have about 7 subjects excluding lunch for now that would be roughly 85 minutes (1 hour and 35 minutes) in one class. Thats 1 hour and 35 minutes of math, history, science, language, etc. Can you really stand to be with the same teacher for that long? I cant. And learning for 10 solid hours, maybe 9 with the lunch added can you really concentrate?
Not only this but you know that after school job you are barely able to maintain with the added help of homework? Forget it. With school ending at 6 P.M every day after the usual teens routine of homework, dinner, and a shower theres no time for a job! Or even friends, significant others, or parents.
Now what I'm curiously pondering is how exactly this "system" saves money. Considering with that extra two hours of school teachers pay wages must also be refilled. Not only this but what about the fact school will be running past the average dinner time of 5 o clock. Will the school be funding a dinner program? And for those not approved for financial aid, can they afford it?
Thats my view, comments?

Hilaire,
I like your rant on school...very impressive...good thoughts...this is a concept that is being considered in KCSD....yes, I said KCSD. I don't think you will see it happen, but you never know. I like will like your rant page..I will check back.
Mrs. Mayes
that would really suck if that happened to us
I would completely hate that! I cant stand being in this place for seven hours no less ten! I thought that you made really good points Hilaire.

That's just ridiculous!! I'm glad I graduate this year that way I won't ever see KCSD attending school for ten hours a day. Plus, sitting in a class for an 1 hour and 35 minutes? That's insane! College classes don't even run that long. Maybe and hour and 15 minutes, but then you only have that class twice a week not four.
i dont think that this is such a bad idea. I would like to have a 3 day weekend every week. And how do you figure that if we start school at 6Am it will go to 6Pm i think that is 12 hours not 10. Plus teachers are paid on a salary not by the hour so they wouldnt have to pay them anything extra.
