Yeah, so I was told in Mrs. Mayes class that science PSSA's are being counted this year. Pardon how juvenile this may sound but, Are you serious? Are you genuinely serious? Not just counted, but you MUST pass to graduate. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!
My first issue is what exactly is on those things anyway? How would you even study for it? What classifies as science right now. I mean off the top of my head I can think of : Biology, Principles of Technology, Physics, feel free to add to the list but that's what I got. So your telling me to pass these things we have to dig all the way back in our stress packed mind to 9th grade? Stamp an F on mine now because I barely remember the difference between a niche and a dome. Is it based on everything from alchemy to zoonomy?(This is real believe it or not, I googled it. Why yes I did put some effort into this thank you for noticing.) Or is it just a specific chunk? What is it!?
And what I wanna know is why we just HAVE to pass the science PSSA to graduate. How often do you use science in the real world anyway. Unless of course you're in the science field but lets exclude that for now. Of course you have to know math for just about everything from your Mickey D's cashier to a brain surgeon and english to communicate with at least half a brain. But when are you gonna need to whip out Newtons 1st law or how Mitosis and Meosis happen? Maybe if your in New York and get stopped in the Cash Cab but other than that I cant think of any reason someone would just demand you tell them the skeletal structure of mammals.
So Mrs. Mayes I hope you like having me in your class because I have a feeling I'll be stuck in this hole a while longer than I suspected originally.

Hilaire,
Yes, I love having you in class; and by far this was your funniest rant!!! I don't believe you will be here longer than you have to be...75% of the students at CMHS did not pass the PSSA Science...it is a growing process. There will be much emphasis on "science" from here on in (as there as been with math and reading) I will miss you when the semester is over. I hope you continue to blog!!
dude i no what you mean. i hate that we have to pass the science part this year.i am not good at science to begin with its crazy if you ask me.
but good job on your blog i wish mine was this good. no one really comments on mine or anything. lol. its all good though.
i totally understand where your coming from. Why is there science on the PSSA's thats total crap. because i didnt do good in my science classes like biology and chem i sucked. Im going to fail it and be stuck in this school which is the worst thing ever. I hope everyone fails so atleast they know we all arent good at science
i agree with you on this one. sceince happens to be my week point, actually it was my lowest grade this first quarter, so if they expect me to pass this so i can graduate, then they might as well "stamp a F" on mine too!
Hi Hilaire, After some investigating I have found out the the science PSSA score will not be included as a graduation requirement. As for your comments about science; WELL, a lot of everyday life is about science, from your health to baking a cake. Most people just don't think about the science. But of course, I'm biased ;-)
